Yes, it was done in the light tent. I took the object back to him yesterday, but will get again to try the cross axis lighting.

If you use more off axis/cross lighting rather than direct lighting you won't have as large of catchlights in the eyes. Try to make the area behind camera as dark as possible so you don't have as noticeable reflections. Was this done in your light tent?
