Outdoor sports season is coming

Texas Hawks 14U Pitcher (by Chester Bullock)

Believe it or not, the spring/ summer sports season is right around the corner here in Colorado. If you have a child on a team that is looking to have pictures done, contact me and I’ll add you to my calendar. For a small retainer, I will dedicate an entire game to your team, and get pictures that will make all of the parents beam with pride.

Capturing Little Kids

My daughter at Red Rocks
My daughter is one of the hardest kids to get a good picture of. At 3 years of age (4 in a couple weeks), she is a non-stop dynamo of energy that never seems to stop. That energy is magnified even more when we are exploring a new (to her) place.

This past weekend she decided she wanted to go see Red Rocks – as in the Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre, but famous by the U2 video in the 80′s. It is actually a pretty popular hangout among people in Denver, there were a lot of people using it for a workout today (running up and down the stairs and “seats” is a popular workout).

Natalie was in explorer mode today, so she wanted to go all the way down to the bottom and look around. I was able to convince her to pose for me a little bit at the top first though. As she gets older, she is starting to enjoy being in front of the camera. Later in the day she told me I should be taking pictures of her splashing in the puddles left by the rain.

I haven’t shot any families with little kids other than my own, but my advice would be to be patient, follow the little ones around, and shoot a lot of pics to get the keepers. It’s kind of like shooting sports. They are that unpredictable and fast paced.

Each Friday I will debut a new picture that I am putting up for sale (print or download) at http://photos.chesterbullock.com. The inaugural image is of my daughter, taken at Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. For the first week than an image is available for purchase, it will be at a reduced price. Once a new image appears here, the prior one will revert to normal pricing (so if you like one, buy it right away).

There won’t be any specific theme, just images that I have created that I feel are worthy of someone’s interest and ownership.

If you are interested in a download for personal printing, or a commercial rights license, please contact me directly.

Comfortably removed

Comfortably removed

I coached little league baseball for the past 5 years. This is my first season since as a spectator. I am enjoying my ‘retirement’. Now I can just focus on taking the pictures and not having to worry about signs, if the runner is going to get caught stealing, if my pitcher is about to have a meltdown, or what the parents think about my decisions (I never really worried about that last one too much come to think of it).

So what have I learned in my ‘retirement’? I want “bigger” glass and a faster body, something that can handle 6fps or more. Sports is all about speed (or the sports I am interested in anyway), and 2.5 or 3 fps just doesn’t get all the action. A fall on a wakeboard, or a slide into home – these things take place in fractions of a second. It’s all good though, I will get the most I can out of my current setup until the budget says it’s time to upgrade.
